Annual, 19-60 cm, usually unbranched. Basal leaves obovate, subsessile. Stem leaves 2-6 cm, oblong-elliptic, apex slightly emarginate or entire, cordate, amplexicaul at base, often tinged violet. Pedicels 4-15 mm, erect-spreading. Outer sepals linear, inner larger, oblong-saccate. Petals 8-12 x 4 mm, pale creamy-white, obovate, gradually narrowed into the claw. Stamens ± equal. Stigma capitate. Siliquae usually irregularly spreading, tetragonous, straight or curved, 6-9 cm x 1-2,5 mm, shortly beaked; valves clearly 1-nerved. Seeds darkish-brown, papillose. Cotyledons incumbent. Fl. 3-5. Cultivated ground, waste places, 50-2000 m.
