Perennial. Stem to 100 cm or more, erect, simple, striate, glabrous or sparsely hirsute. Leaves 7-12 x 3-6 cm, glabrous, sometimes rather scabrid, pale below, irregularly 2-serrate; basal ovate-oblong, cordate, long-petiolate, strongly serrate; lower cauline ovate, shortly petiolate; upper sessile, almost entire. Flowers shortly pedicellate, 1-2 in axils of upper leaves, erect, in narrow, ± spicate raceme. Calyx lobes linear-Ianceolate, long-acuminate, 12-15 mm, longer than obconical ovary, usually serrate, glabrous or shortly ciliate on margin, spreading-erect. Corolla infundibular-campanulate, 40-55 mm, divided to ¼ into acute, ± curved, long-bearded lobes, glabrous outside, deep blue. Style included. Stigmas 3. Capsule ovoid, 7 x 7 mm, nodding, opening by 3 basal pores. Seeds oblong, flattened, 2 x I mm, pale yellow with narrow pale margin. Fl. 6-8. Forest, scrub, lush meadows, 530-2600 m.
