Hispid perennial. Stems 1 to numerous, erect-ascending, 20-30 cm, simple. Leaves stiffly patent to subadpressed-setose; basal oblong-spathulate, crenate-serrate, 1-3 x 0·6-1 cm, narrowed into 2 cm petiole; cauline leaves oblong to lanceolate, sessile, semi-amplexicaul, smaller. Flowers in a terminal capitate inflorescence, sometimes with some axillary clusters, sessile, with lanceolate involucral bracts. Calyx lobes erect, oblong, 5-7 mm, obtuse. Calyx appendages ovate, longer than ovary. Corolla 20 mm, cylindrical-infundibular, divided to 1/2 into ovate acute lobes, violet, outside hispid on nerves. Style included. Stigmas 3. Capsule obconical, opening by 3 basal pores. Seeds ellipsoid, 1 x 0·6 mm, tuberculate and prominently rugose, brown, shiny. FI. 5-6. Thickets, limestone cliffs, s.l.-c. 1000 m.
