Erect annual with glabrous or setose stems up to 1,5 m. Leaves lyrate to pinnatisect, segments lanceolate, entire or serrate. Capitula 1,5-3 cm diam., ± globose, radiant; flowers whitish, pale yellow or pale lilac. Involucral bracts ovate, obtuse, white-villous. Receptacular bracts oblong, acuminate into awn with purplish central streak, white-villous, ciliate. Involucel fusiform, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, apex not toothed. Calyx cupuliform, with numerous long hair-like setae. Fl. 6-9. Fields, disturbed and marshy places. 350-2050 m.
