Perennial with glabrous striate stems up to 3 m high. Leaves softly tomentose, becoming glabrous with age, oblong, lyrate or pinnatisect, segments ovate to elliptic, crenate or serrate. Capitula 2-3 cm diam.; flowers pale yellow. Involucral bracts ovate to oblong-Ianceolate; receptacular bracts lanceolate, shortly acuminate; both straw-coloured. Involucel 7-8 mm long, pilose, with 4 long and 4 short apical teeth. Calyx shallowly cupuliform, denticulate. Fl. 6-8. 500-1000 m.
