Sturdy, ascending-erect perennial, 70-100 cm, branched from base, with short woody caudices, Stem glabrous or minutely puberulent below, glabrous above. Leaves coriaceous, reticulate rugose, sparsely pilose on mid-vein and margin, leaves simple, entire or serrate; basal and median cauline leaves lanceolate, 6-13 x 1-2.5 cm; upper cauline leaves linear or narrowly lanceolate, glabrous, 2-7 x 0.1-0.4 cm, Capitula 0.7-1.4 cm diam., ovoid. Flowers 15 mm, lilac, densely ± adpressed pilose outside. Involucral bracts broadly ovate; receptacular bracts ovate-oblong, acute; both straw-coloured and ciliate on margins. Involucel 2-3 mm, sparsely pilose, with 4 short and 4 long apical teeth. Fl. 7. Pinus nigra forest, 1300-1450 m.
