Erect annual with glabrous to pubescent and/or setose stems up to 1 m. Leaves pinnatisect, upper ones with narrower segments, entire or serrate. Capitula globose, 0,5-1,25 cm diam. Involucral bracts ovate, mucronate; receptacular bracts ovate to lanceolate, acuminate into short awn, usually with purplish central streak, margin ciliate. Corolla white or lilac . Involucel c. 5 mm, quadrangular, 8-ribbed, pilose, apex with 8 equal teeth or with the 4 at the angles longer than those between. Calyx cupuliform with numerour hair-like setae. Fl. 6-9. Fields.
