Large glabrous, spreading perennial, up to 1,5 m tall. Rhizome cylindrical, branched. Stem hollow, subsulcate. Leaves all simple, cordate, acute, unequally dentate or sometimes repand, 4-20 cm long; petioles 5-50 cm long. Upper cauline leaves triangular to ovate, sometimes lanceolate, usually subsessile. Inflorescence dense, branching di- and/or trichotomously. Bracts ovate to lanceolate, usually pilose but sometimes glabrous. Flowers white, sometimes pale pink. Achene glabrous. Fl. 6-8. Shady places often by streams, 1000-3000 m.
