Shrub, 15-40 cm, papillose to glabrescent, stems numerous, erect. Leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, triquetrous or flat, fasciculate, 5-17 x 0.5-2 mm, ending in a short spine. Internodes 15-25 mm, longer than leaves. Clusters of flowers terminal and axillary. Bracts leaf-like, linear-lanceolate, often folded and ± reflexed, papillose to glabrescent, 4-6 mm, shorter than the flowers; flower-heads together with bracts 8-13 mm in diam. Calyx tubular-turbinate, 4-5 mm, papillose to finely pubescent, 5-costate, teeth short, ovate, prickly, 1-1.5 mm, ± reflexed, connate at base, margin membranous, introflexed. Petals white, oblanceolate to obcordate, retuse, 5-7 mm. Capsule obovate to globose. Seeds smooth. Fl. 7-8. Mountain steppe, stony hill-sides, 1800-1900 m.

Transcaucasia, N. Iran. Ir.-Tur. element. Well characterized by the reflexed calyx teeth with introflexed margins.
