Perennial. Roots tuberous. Stems erect, up to 100 cm, glabrous or sometimes villosulous below, glaucous. Leaves ovate to ovate-oblong, glabrous or puberulous. Inflorescence lax. Sepals lanceolate, acuminate, 9-12 mm, margins scarious. Petals white, bifid, 16-20 mm, hairy on the claws. Capsules c. 2 x longer than calyces. Seeds tuberculate. Fl. 6-7. Scrub, damp places, 2000-3300 m.
