Like M. dianthifolia but more robust and forming spiny cushions; leaves 15-25 mm, narrowly triangular, pungent, the median and marginal veins much more prominent than the others; sepals 15-20 mm; petals broadly ovate, less than  ½  as long as sepals, with a claw 0,5 mm; capsule less than ½  as long as calyx. Fl. 6-8. Rock crevices and scree, 1600-2200 m.
