Densely caespitose or pulvinate perennial forming tufts up to 40 cm across, with dwarf, prostrate, 1-4 cm flowering stems. Basal leaves 5-7 x 1mm, linear, glabrous or with ciliate margins or with short eglandular hairs on the lamina. Cauline leaves few, sessile, or absent. Inflorescence branches 3-10-flowered with an indumentum of long, capitate, glandular hairs. Calyx glandular, oblong-cylindrical, c.8 mm. Petals crimson or purple with a narrow obovate, retuse lamina which has two short, linear coronal scales at the base, and a linear-oblong claw. Stamens aboutt the petal length. Style c. 1 mm. Capsule oblong, subsessile, equalling calyx. Fl. 5-7. Rocky slopes and screes, 1800-2400 m.
