Perennial, the sterile shoots forming loose tufts. Leaves of the sterile shoots linear-lanceolate, crowded. Leaves of flowering shoots distant, broader than the sterile shoot leaves. Inflorescence narrow, racemose. Flowers sometimes unisexual. Calyx 4-5 mm in early flower, quickly becoming inflated and bladder-like, reaching 12 mm long and broad in fruit. Petals whitish, the limb bifid into linear lobes. Capsule 3-4.5 x 2.5-3 mm, included in the calyx. Fl. 5-6. Open places, rocky slopes, 1300-2500 m.
