Erect perennials, 60-130 cm, puberulent on stems and leaves. Basal leaves unknown. Cauline leaves elliptic or narrowly obovate, petiolate, acute, often with small sterile shoots in the axils. Inflorescence racemose or narrowly paniculate, the branches often compact and forming pseudo-verticels. Flowers hermaphrodite. Calyx glabrous or with very short hairs on the nerves, 5-7 mm. Petals pink, entire. Anthophore 1,2 mm. Capsule c. 10 mm, rupturing the calyx. Fl. 8. Alt. 750-1800 m.
