Annual. Stems erect, up to 35 cm, pilose with multicellular hairs. Basal leaves forming a rosette, oblong, obtuse; cauIine leaves oblong-lanceolate, acute; all sparsely hairy and with undulate margins. Inflorescence a compound dichasium, usually less than 9-flowered, the alar flowers erect. Calyx 9-12 mm, somewhat inflated in fruit, with an indumentum of multicellular hairs, the cross-walls of which are thickened, brownish and conspicuous when seen through a x 20 lens. Petals pink, the limb entire or emarginate. Anthophore 4-5 mm. Capsule ovoid, included in the calyx. Seed with tuberculate faces and ± convex tuberculate back.
