Perennial herb, ± erect, 15-30 cm. Stems quadrangular, glabrescent or shortly puberulous. Lower leaves narrowly lanceolate or oblong, often rather crowded and persistent, 20-30 x 2-5 mm. Upper leaves lanceolate-acuminate, 30-60 x 4-9 mm. Inflorescence c. 10-flowered. Bracts leaf-like but smaller. Sepals 6-9 mm. Petals usually 2 x sepals, often with laciniate apices. Capsules about equalling calyx. Fl. 3-6. Scrub, roadside, damp places, 50-1600 m.
