Shrub 1-3 m tall. Leaves ovate, sometimes lanceolate, acute, with long basally connate petioles; upper surface ± glabrous, very sticky; lower surface grey. densely tomentose. Cymes lateral, 3-5-flowered, with long peduncles. Flowers 3-5 cm across, white. Sepals 3, not cordate at base. Style short or absent. Fl. 5-6. Submediterranean macchie, often the dominant shrub under Pinus nigra, growing higher and further inland than any other Turkish Cistus.
Europe. Medit. element. The species often dominates after Pinus nigra forest has been destroyed by fire.
