Erect annuals up to 60 cm tall. Leaves oblong, 1-5 x 0,4-1,2 cm. Bracts usually stipulate. Flowers subsolitary in leafy racemes, or in long, lax, sometimes branched inflorescences of 5-10 flowers per axis. Pedicels erect in flowers and fruit, as long as, or shorter than, the calyx. Sepals acuminate. Capsules 4-12 mm. Fl. 5-6. Dry calcareous places, rocky slopes, scrub, vineyards, etc., 500-1400 m, often collected with H. salicifolium.
