Woody-based sericeous, procumbent to ± erect, 3-30 cm perennial, often with creeping roots. Leaves linear-elliptic, elliptic, linear-oblanceolate to broadly oblanceolate, bluntly acute to acute, rarely obtuse. Flowers axillary and terminal, solitary or in 2-7-flowered cymes. Outer sepals sericeous, ovate, obovate or oblong, acute to acuminate. Corolla pink, occasionally white, 15-25 mm. Fl. 4-7. Artemisia steppe, under Quercus, rocky slopes, bare banks, streamsides, dry pasture, fallow land, 800-2135 m.
N. Africa, S. Europe, Cyprus, Caucasia, W. Syria, Syrian Desert, N.W. & W. Iran, eastwards to Turkestan.
