More or less densely glandular pubescent, erect annual. Basal leaves in whorls of 4, alternate in upper part, broadly elliptic to linear, obtuse to subacute, glaucous. Inflorescences terminal, usually densely glandular pubescent, cymes with 1-3 cincinni. Flowers 5-merous, with ten stamens, sessile or shortly pedicellate, with 1 bract each. Sepals broadly sessile, basally connate, equal, triangular, 1-1,5 mm long acute. Petals free, narrowly oblong or lanceolate to broadly ovate-elliptic, 4-7 mm long, keel often red, spreading. Filaments white, usually papillate at the base. Anthers bright red or purple, rarely yellow, to 1 mm long. Styles slender, 1-1.5 mm long, white. Nectariferous scales quadrate or oblong, often emarginate, white to yellow. Ripe follicles spreading, brown to purplish brown, tuberculate. Seeds ovoid, shiny-black or brown, costate. Fl. 4-6. Open stony places, sea level to 1500 m.
