Glabrous perennial herb with prostrate or ascending, creeping and rooting, branching shoots forming loose tufts or mats. Leaves alternate, densely imbricate, sessile with a short, greenish-white, truncate spur of 0.7 mm at base, oblong, c. 8 x 2 mm, terete, rounded, dark green or glaucous. Dead leaves brown, sometimes persistent. Flowering branches erect or ascending, simple or with small accessory, axillary inflorescences. Inflorescence of small compact cymes with 2-3, rarely forked cincinni. Flowers 5-merous, subsessile, with 2 bracts each. Sepals broadly sessile, unequal, oblong, to 2.5 mm long, rounded. Petals basally free or slightly connate, elliptic, 4-5 x 1.5-2 rnm, acute or mucronate, yellow. Filaments and anthers yellow. Styles 1 mm; nectary scales quadrate. Ripe follicles spreading-stellate, brown, with narrow lips along suture. Seeds ovoid, brown, reticulate-papillose.
Endemic. All Turkish specimens formerly 'identified as' S. laconicum Boiss. & Heide. belong here.
