Stems up to 75 cm, glaucous, usually with numerous branches in the lower part; branches hollow; sheaths at first green, later brown; teeth black with narrow white margins, and with a persistent hair-like apex. Lowest internode of the branches much shorter than the stem sheaths. Cone up to 12 mm. Stream banks, moist meadows, shingle, from s.I.-1900 m.
