Stems 10-60 cm, usually branched, occasionally simple; grooves deep, 4-8. Sheaths green, loose, with 4-8 triangular-subulate, 1-ribbed, black teeth. Central hollow of stem less than ½ the stem diameter. Branches hollow, short, 4-5-grooved, with the lowest internode much shorter then the stem sheath. Cone 1-3 cm. Damp places, up to 1400 m.
