Stem 10-30 cm, to 3 mm diam., persistent, simple or branched from base; grooves 4-10; ridges finely sulcate, with 2 rows of minute tubercles. Sheaths green with black band at apex; teeth 4-10, broadly scarious with dark centre. Central hollow of stem c. 1/4 stem diam. Cone 5-7 mm. Abies forest. c. 1350 m.
