Sparingly pilose or somewhat villous annual to 1 m, but usually not exceeding 50 cm. Stems simple or 2-branched from base. Cauline and rayleaves oblong-oblanceolate, 2-5 x 0.5-1.5 cm, subacute or obtuse, auriculate at base, sharply and coarsely serrate. Raylet-leaves ovate to ovate-rhombic or ovate-deltoid, 0.5-1 x 0.3-1 cm, serrate. Rays 4-5, usually trichotomous then once or twice dichotomous; axillary rays 1-5. Fruit trilobate, 4 mm diam., smooth, usually glabrous. Seeds ovoid, 2 mm, smooth, dark grey; caruncle patelliform. Fl. 4-5. Weed of cultivated fields and waste land, nr s.l.
