Glabrous glaucous perennial to 70 cm, often with lateral leafy branches developing later from near base. Cauline leaves linear to lanceolate, 3-8 x 0.2-2 cm, acute or subacute, cuneate, ± entire. Ray-leaves lanceolate to ovate-trullate, 2-7 x 0.5-3.5 cm. Raylet-leaves resembling ray-leaves, but smaller. Rays 5. Glands transversely ovate, ± truncate or shallowly crescent-shaped. Cyathial lobes linear. Fruit 5-6 mm diam., smooth. Seeds ± square in outline, rounded-quadrangular in section, 3.5 mm, smooth, pale grey; caruncle strongly fluted, 1.5 mm. Fl. 5-9. Lakeside marsh, steppe, sandy hills, stony slopes, fields, roadsides, 1000-2300 m.
