Glabrous, glaucous, fleshy, caespitose perennial. Stems numerous, to 70 cm, ±simple, densely leafy, arising from a woody stock. Cauline leaves imbricate, linear-oblong, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, uppermost usually ovate, 5-25 x 2-10 mm, apex subacute or obtuse, margin entire, adaxially concave. Ray-leaves ovate-lanceolate to broadly ovate. Raylet-leaves suborbicular-rhombic to reniform, 5-15 x 7-17 mm, cuneate to truncate, strongly adaxially concave. Rays 3-6, to3 times dichotomous; axillary rays 0-10. Glands short-homed, orange. Fruit strongly trilobate, 5-6 mm diam., granulate-rugulose, Seeds broadly ovoid, 3 mm, smooth, pale grey or whitish, caruncle minute. Fl. 4-9. Sandy coasts, shingle beaches, s.l.-10 m.
