Glabrous or pubescent annual herb to 1 m. Stems simple, or 2-branched from base. Cauline and ray-leaves oblong-oblanceolate, 1-4 x 0.5-1 cm, acute, cordate-auriculate, finely serrulate. Raylet-leaves ovate-deltoid to ovate-rhombic, rarely elliptic, 5-15 x 7-13 mm, rounded-cuneate. Rays 5, at first 3- or 4-chotomous, then 2- or 3-chotomous; axillary rays numerous. Fruit shallowly 3-lobed, 2.5-3 mm diam., shallowly verrucose. Seeds ovoid, 2 mm, dark brown, smooth; caruncle reniform. Fl. 4-8. Sandy shores, marshy ground, streambeds, ditches, roadsides, cultivated ground, 50-1600 m.
