Trees up to 10 m, with a spreading crown. Pinnae 8-12-paired. Leaflets 8-10 x 2-4 mm, oblong, falcate, 20-30-paired, slightly hairy. Calyx c. 3 mm, the teeth 0·5 mm. Corolla 6-8 mm, greenish. Stamens 2-3 cm, conspicuous, pale pink. Fruit c. 20 x 2 cm, flattened. Fl. 7-8. Deciduous forest at low altitudes.
N. Iran. Hyrcanian element. Planted as an ornamental tree in Turkey, but also wild or naturalised in N.E. Anatolia.
