Shrubs to c. 4 m. Leaflets 15-40 x 8-20 mm, elliptic to ovate, 5-12-paired, glabrous or ±pubescent. Racemes 7-15 cm. Calyx 3 mm; teeth shortly triangular. Standard c. 6 mm, blue or purple. Fruit 7-9 mm, tuberculate. Fl. 6. Cultivated as an ornamental shrub and occasionally naturalised.
Native in N. America.
