Ascending, caulescent herb up to 15 cm, with a woody caudex; stems 2-3 cm. Leaves 2-10 cm; leaflets 7-12 mm oblong, ± spreading white bifurcate-pilose, 7-10-paired: stipules 4-7 mm, triangular, joined to c. halfway. Flowers in sub-globose, 9-15-flowered racemes. Bracts 2-5 mm, lanceolate. Calyx 8-10 mm, tubular, becoming inflated, black and white ± spreading simple-pilose: teeth 2-3 mm, subulate. Corolla violet; standard 20-25 mm, glabrous. Ovary ±spreading white-pilose. Fl. 5-7. Steppe, stony slopes, 1400-2600 m.
