Cushion-forming shrub, 15-25 cm. Leaf rachis spiny, 2-4 cm, straight. Leaflets 6-15 mm, elliptic or occasionally narrowly elliptic, spine-tipped, densely to sparsely simple-white-tomentose, 2-3-paired. Stipules 8-11 mm, ovate-acuminate, white-tomentellous. Flowers sessile, 4-6 per leaf axil. Inflorescence± globose to elongate, 2,5-3,5 cm diam., 5-30-flowered. Bracts 9-11 mm, ovate to orbicular, navicular, tomentose. Calyx 12-15 mm, densely pilose; lobes divided to the base, though apparently forming a tube c. 5 mm long. Corolla pink; standard 15-18 mm. Fl. 6-8. Stony calcareous ground, steppe etc., 400-1100 m.
