Dwarf cushion-forming shrub, 10-20 cm. Leaf rachis spiny, 1,5-6 cm, straight. Leaflets 5-12 mm, narrowly elliptic, spine-tipped, sparsely simple-adpressed-pilose or glabrescent, 4-6 paired. Stipules 10-18 mm, lanceolate, shortly villous when young, becoming glabrous. Flowers sessile, 2-6 per leaf axil. Inflorescence globose to ovoid, 1·5-3 cm diam., 10-40-flowered. Bracts 9-12 mm, lanceolate to broadly ovate-lanceolate, navicular, sparsely pubescent towards the apex. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 10-15 mm, densely white-pilose; lobes divided to the base though apparently forming a tube 2-5 mm long. Corolla lilac to pink; standard 14-20 mm. Fl. 6-7.Rocky slopes etc., 1380-2900 m.
