Erect to ascending, caulescent perennial, 30-45 cm. Leaves 12-15 cm; leaflets 10-15 mm, linear-elliptic with an obtuse apex, adpressed simple-pilose, greyish; stipules 4-6 mm, triangular-lanceolate, united at the base. Peduncles 10-15 cm. Inflorescence a lax, cylindrical, 30-50-flowered spike which elongates in fruit. Bracts 3-5 mm, lanceolate. Calyx 9-12 mm, tubular, with long white simple and short black bifurcate hairs; teeth 3-5 mm, subulate. Corolla dark purple; standard 15-20 mm. Legume 7-9 x 3 mm, stipitate, ellipsoid, simple-pilose, hairs long, white, drying yellow; beak 3-5 mm. Fl. 5-7. Steppe, meadows, fields, etc., 1550-2050 m.
