Shrub up to 5 m, the older shoots grey-brown. Leaflets 4-5-paired, up to 30 mm, elliptic to obovate. Corolla 20-22 rnm, the wings always longer than the keel, spurred. Ovary glabrus. Calyx pubescent with black and white hairs, the teeth c. 2 mrn, acute with rounded sinuses. Ft. 4-9. Upland steppe communities, open pine and oak woods, macchie, phrygana, 100-2000 m.
Greece, Crimea, Caucasia, N.W. Iran, N. Iraq, W. Syria. Intermediate forms between this species and G. arborescens occur in the Balkans.
