Ascending or erect annual, 10-50 cm, adpressed-pubescent. Stipules with lanceolate-subulate free portions. Leaflets 3-5 cm, narrowly linear-lanceolate, those of the upper leaves acute, of the lower obtuse.  Inflorescence spicate, cylindrical or conical, shortly peduncled. Calyx tubular-campanulate, 10-nerved, adpressed stiff-hairy; teeth subulate-setaceous, blunt or acute, stellately spreading in fruit. Corolla purple to white, 10-13 mm, at most only slightly exceeding the calyx. Fruiting calyx with a closed throat. Fl. 3-4. Fallow fields, steppe, sandy places, etc., s.l.-700 m.
