Ascending or prostrate, much-branching annual, 10-50 cm. Leaflets 0,4-1,2 cm, obovate, rounded or truncate at the apex, apiculate. Inflorescence with capillary peduncles elongating in fruit, many-flowered, globose. Corollate flowers 1-2. Calyx tube of fertile flowers densely villous, lobes equal, pilose. Corolla white, 6-7 mm. Fruiting head 8-10 mm, globose, forming a dense, grey, hairy ball. Sterile flowers with long bristly calyx teeth. Fl. 2-5. Grassy and rocky slopes, fields and roadsides, s.l.-1200 m.
