Distinguished from V. narbonensis by its more robust habit, leaves without tendrils, leaflets usually longer, often whitish corolla with blackish wings, larger pubescent legumes , with smooth sutures, and larger seeds that are often oval-oblong and flattened. Cultivated and sometimes persisting in fallow fields.
The broad bean  is widely cultivated in Turkey. According to Zhukovsky forms referable to varieties major , equina  and minor  are grown.
