Biennial; stem erect, to 30 cm, usually simple, rarely branched from base, with solitary terminal flowers. Basal leaves spathulate to oblanceolate, obtuse; middle and upper cauline lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 10-30 x 2-6 mm, acute. Flowers 4-merous. Calyx campanulate, 10-30 mm, lobes subequal and ½ x corolla, sinuses obtuse. Corolla blue, rarely white, 25-35 mm, lobed to middle with oblongobovate lobes long-ciliate on margin. Capsule much shorter than corolla, long stipitate. Fl. 8-9. Moist grassy places, 1200-2440 m.
