Annual, 7-15 cm. Stems ± hirsute. Basal leaves mostly trisect, terminal segment large, 3-5-lobed, all segments crenate-dentate. Cauline leaves often more deeply divided, acutely toothed. Bracts several. Sepals 8-10 mm, enlarging in , fruit to 14-17 mm, obtuse, membranous with conspicuous green nerves, eglandular; awns 2-7 mm. Petals lavender-blue, 1 ½ -2 x sepals. Beak of fruit 6-9 em. Mericarps 14-15 mm, rufous-hispid, foveoles deeply pitted and eglandular, with a wide furrow beneath. Fl. 2-5. Rocky slopes, waste places, s.l.-1000 m.
