Pilose annual, 5-30 cm. Basal leaves heteromorphic; outer 3-5-lobed, inner trisect or lyrate-pinnatisect, mostly oblong with a lower pair of segments and a long pinnatifid or pinnatisect terminal segment, crenate-dentate, often reddish veined; cauline leaves similar to inner basal leaves. Bracts several. Sepals 4-6 , usually eglandular; awn 0,8-2 mm. Petals lilac-blue, 1-1 ½ x sepals. Beak of fruit 6-7 cm. Mericarps 6-7,5 mm, adpressed-setulose, without a furrow below the foveoles. Fl. 3-4. Sandy soils; macchie, orchards, stony slopes, s.l.-1400 m.
