Unarmed shrub 1-3 m. Buds up to 10 mm, acute. Leaves 3-6,5 x3-6,5 cm, sparsely pubescent with an admixture of stalked glands; base truncate or subcordate. Inflorescence an erect 8-30-flowered raceme with a glandular axis. Bracteoles 4-8 mm. Flowers functionally dioecious, yellowish-green tinged with purple; hypanthium pelviform; sepals patent; petals minute. Fruit globose, 4-6 mm diam., scarlet, glabrous. Fl. 7-8.
