Internodes 14 cm, each node with one root. Leaves 30-60 x 3-8 mm, shortly petiolate, lamina linear to oblong, obtuse, serrulate, 3-veined with ascending cross-veins, glabrous, papillose or slightly hairy. Valves acute, keeled, hairy. Fruit ellipsoid, 5 mm, beak 4-6 mm. Fl. 8-9. Sea, mainly in muddy bottom and deep water at or close to harbours.
W. Indian Ocean, Red Sea, E. Mediterranean. The species spread to the E. Mediterranean via the Suez Canal and further spreading along the coasts of Turkey is expected.
