Leaves up to 7, mostly recurved and adpressed to soil or straight and erect, 5-15 cm x 0.8-2mm. Scape 1-6-flowered. Bract with very narrow membranous margins, tinged purplish or speckled with reddish-brown, 10-21 mm. Bracteole subequal but broader, almost entirely membranous or with narrow green keel, brownish or densely speckled. Perianth variable in colour, 2-3.5 cm; tube hairy, 3.5-8 mm, throat yellow to orange; segments elliptic-oblanceolate to long-lanceolate, acute, rarely rounded, white, yellow, lilac or violet; outer segments greenish or brownish-purple, or veined with darker colour. Filaments hairy below. Stigmas usually overtopping anthers, variable in length. Fl. 2-6.
