Leaves 3-5, 5-15 cm x 0.9-1.5 mm, mostly recurved and adpressed to soil. Scape not produced above ground, 1-2-flowered. Pedicels short. Bract 9-16 mm, herbaceous with very narrow membranous margins, sometimes tinged purple. Bracteole with broad membranous margins, speckled red-brown. Perianth violet-purple, concolorous or with darker centre, 1.3-2 cm; tube 4-7 mm; segments acute, outer ones greenish on back. Filaments purple, hairy below; anthers pale yellow, reaching 1/2-2/3 up perianth. Stigmas held below top of anthers. Fl. 3-4. Open grassy places in macchie, 30-105 m.
Greece, Aegean. E. Medit. element. Subsp. linaresii from Sicily is larger in all its parts with blunt perianth segments.
