Perennial, rhizome weak or absent, often with rooting and creeping stems. Stems 15-40 cm, with 3-5 cauline leaves. Leaves unitubulose, perfectly and distinctly septate. Inflorescence of 3-20 heads; heads usually 15-30-flowered. Perianth segments 3-4 mm, inner usually longer, narrowly ovate, acute to acuminate, ±reddish. Stamens 1/3-1/2 x perianth; anthers 0.8-1.5 mm, 1.5-3 x filaments. Capsule variable, always rather sharply trigonous, with distinct, 0.5-2 mm beak.
