Perennial; rhizome strong, creeping, usually Iong-noded, Stems 30-120 cm, with 2-4 terete, non-septate cauline leaves. Inflorescence lax, many-flowered; flowers borne singly at ends of branches, with involucral bracteoles. Perianth segments narrowly ovate to lanceolate, 2.5-3.5 mm, acute to apiculate; inner with broad scarious margin. Stamens ± equalling perianth; anthers 1-1.2 mm, 4-5 x filaments. Capsule equalling perianth, ovoid-trigonous, obtuse, shortly mucronate, light brown to blackish-brown, shiny. Seeds 0.6-0.7 mm, with short appendages. Fl. 4-6. Saline places, nr s.l.
