Stems 15-60 cm, ascending to erect, often glandular, sparsely to densely spreading-pilose. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 25-60 x 16-40 cm, cuneate to nearly truncate at base, sparsely to densely pilose, craspedodromous, conspicuously dentate to serrate . Verticillasters 3-7, ± distant, 2-11-flowered, subumbellate, peduncles conspicuous. Bracteoles elliptic to lanceolate-subulate, 2.5-5 mm. Calyx bilabiate, 11-veined, 9-14 mm; tube slightly curved, very sparsely hairy, hairs at top of throat sparse and exserted; upper teeth recurved, 1.5-2.5 mm; lower teeth 3-5.5 mm, long-ciliate. Corolla pale or mauvish pink to red, large, 25-42 mm. Fl. 6-10. Damp and shady places, in forests and scrub, often on limestone, 300-2450 m.
