Perennial. Stems 12-34 cm, villous, more rarely puberulent or shortly pilose. Leaves with 10-70 mm petiole; lamina ovate or ovate-reniform, 20-50 mm x 15-44 mm, ± deeply cordate, crenate or doubly crenate, dark green or blackish, rarely paler, villous to puberulent. Verticillasters 1-6, 6-10-flowered. Bracteoles 4-8.5 mm. Calyx 10.5-16 mm, tube 5-11 mm, pubescent to villous; teeth narrowly triangular, 3-6.5 mm, ± densely ciliate. Corolla purplish-pink to mauve, usually not or only faintly striate, 22-40 mm; tube 12-27 mm, straight, with annulus; upper lip bifid, lobes 14 mm, oblong, divergent; lower lip 6.5-13 mm, lateral lobes appendiculate or not. Nutlets 2.2-3.2 x 1.1-1.2 mm, blackish-green with a few paler spots. Fl. 3-7. Pinus nigra forest, shady rocks, cliffs., limestone scree, 500-1750 m.
