Glabrous annual. Stems 20-60 cm, straw-coloured. Leaves orbicular-ovate, 20-45 x 20-45 mm, palmately crenate or incised; floral leaves similar. Bracteoles 6-10 mm. Verticillasters 6-8-flowered. Calyx pale jade-green with whitish reticulate veins, 20-30 mm, tube eglandular, limb greatly expanded, thin and membranous, 25-40 mm across, with 5 mucros to 0.5 mm, not spiny, deciduous in fruit . Corolla purplish-pink or mauvish-white, c. 20 mm; upper lip entire, shortly hairy. Fl. 4-6. Fallow- and cornfields, waste ground, vineyards, eroded banks, 100-1300 m.
